Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about recital? We’ve got you covered! This section includes everything you need to know—from rehearsal expectations and costumes to performance day details, tickets, and more. Our goal is to make recital a smooth, exciting, and memorable experience for every dancer and family.

Please ensure that your dancer has all of their costumes, tights, accessories, and dance shoes. Checklists for each dance are on their costume garment bag.
Make sure your dancer’s name is in all of their belongings.
Transport costumes within their garment bag for protection. Please do not wear or play dress up with costumes until after the recital. We cannot replace damaged or lost costumes.
In order to avoid damage to the costumes, do not wear costumes en route to the auditorium. Dancers must change into costume in dressing rooms, please do not bring costumes into the bathrooms.
No underwear is to be worn with costumes. Tights are worn in place of underwear with costumes for girls. Boys should wear compression shorts under all costumes.
Remove all nail polish and jewelry.
If your dancer’s costume has wrinkles, please steam it with a steamer or put it in the bathroom hung on a towel rack while a hot shower is running. Tutus should be steamed while upside down.
Do not wash or iron costumes.

Recital Ticketing in 3 Easy Steps:

1. Friday, May 1
Pay your final LDA account balance
Your LDA account must be paid in full in order to receive your family’s personalized ticket purchasing code. Tickets will not be able to be purchased if you have an unpaid balance. No ticket allotment requests are required this year, all families will be able to purchase as many tickets as they would like. There will be no limit on amount of tickets per family.

2. Saturday May 2 - Friday, May 8:
Receive your ticket promo code
Your promo code to purchase tickets will be sent to you via e-mail after your final account balance is paid. Please give us a few days to manually generate your code and send out. This is not an automated process. Codes will be sent to the email that is listed in your Parent Portal.

3. Saturday, May 9– 3:00pm CST
Purchase your recital tickets online!
Tickets are $25.50 each. Choose your reserved seats and purchase your tickets online using the promo code provided. Seat selection is first-come, first-served. We suggest getting a head count ahead of time and purchasing all family and friend tickets on May 9 so everyone is seated together. Payment by credit card will be needed. Detailed ticket purchasing information will be provided when you receive your promo code. Tickets are non-refundable.

Who needs to purchase a ticket?
By law of the Fire Marshall, each person entering the auditorium is required to purchase a ticket. Parents, siblings, additional family members and friends require a ticket to watch the recital. Dancers do not need a ticket, they remain backstage throughout the show and do not get to watch from the audience.

What does the ticket price cover?
Ticket sales are required to pay for the auditorium, air conditioning, room rental, staff, lighting and sound personnel, custodians, sets, programs, and many other required recital needs (we even pay for each individual roll of toilet paper used!). Tuition payments cover the cost of lessons, while ticket sales and performance fees help to pay for the recital. Please understand the recital is a separate entity from classes and has its own costs.

What if we need wheelchair accessible seating?
No problem! When you purchase your tickets, be sure to select one of the wheelchair seating options. There is no actual theater seat in that area, it is meant for a wheelchair.

Do I need to purchase tickets right away when they go on sale?
The majority of tickets are purchased within 30 minutes of tickets going on sale. On-sale ticket time is 3:00pm CST on Saturday, May 9. We suggest trying to purchase earlier rather than later. There is not a bad seat in the auditorium, and there is an upper balcony that gives you a great view. If you do not purchase right away, seat selection and location may be limited based on what others have already purchased.

Will there be open ticket sales?
Once all LDA families have purchased tickets, we will open ticket sales up to the general public. We suggest getting a head count ahead of time and purchasing all family and friend tickets on May 9 so everyone is seated together.

LDA is proud to celebrate our 56th Annual Recital, "A Day at the Zoo" on Friday, June 5th @ 6:30pm at Bolingbrook High School. Required Stage Rehearsal dates are Wednesday, June 3rd and Thursday, June 4th. Every year, La Danse Académie's recital is tied together with an overarching theme. The title of each dance and the music chosen help to support this theme and dancers love knowing their dance contributes to the overall story of the show.

Important Information:
Attendance at stage rehearsals is required to ensure a smooth and successful performance. Rehearsals will be held on Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday, June 4.

If your dancer is absent from class, please check BAND for choreography updates. You may also arrange a makeup class with their teacher to help your dancer stay on track.

Key Dates:
Stage Rehearsal: June 3 & June 4 at Bolingbrook High School
Recital Performance: June 5 at 6:30 PM at Bolingbrook High School

Arrival:
Stage Rehearsal and Recital is held at Bolingbrook High School Auditorium located at 365 Raider Way, Bolingbrook, IL. Enter on Lily Cache Lane and park then enter through door 3. All dancers must be dropped off to their designated dressing rooms between 5:45-6:00pm. Dancers must arrive with hair and make-up complete. Please help your dancer get dressed into their first costume and then take a seat and enjoy the show! Audience seating begins at 6:00pm and the show will start at 6:30pm. We will not delay the show for late dancers or audience members. Dancers are not allowed into the auditorium at any time.

Audience Etiquette:
Photos and videos may be taken during stage rehearsal, and we will have two professional photographers present during rehearsal.

Audience seating will begin at 6:00 PM, 30 minutes prior to the performance.

For the safety and focus of our dancers:

Cell phones must be silenced
Camera and video screens must be turned off
No flash photography at any time

Please refrain from calling out dancer names or yelling during the performance. Applause is always appreciated and encouraged!

Food, drinks, and balloons are not permitted in the theater.

If you need to leave your seat, please do so between performances to avoid disruptions.

Backstage:
We go to great lengths to assure the backstage is as organized as what you see on stage. We have volunteers who chaperone and monitor your child while backstage. All dancers are required to stay for the full show. Parents, guardians, grandparents and caretakers are not allowed backstage until after the show is over. Audience members are not allowed to visit with dancers during intermission. Dancers are not allowed into the auditorium at any time. Our policies are in place with your child’s best interest and safety in mind. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping our show run smoothly.

Departure:
For safety, dancers are not allowed to leave the show until after the finale. After the show ends, please meet your dancer at their assigned dressing room to pack up and head home!

T-Shirt Orders:

Commemorate "A Day at the Zoo" Recital 2026 with a keepsake t-shirt featuring the full cast list of dancers’ names on the back. Shirts are available to purchase for $30 per shirt and will be pre-ordered. We will not be selling shirts at stage rehearsal this year. When deciding what size to order, use standard unisex t-shirt sizing. Shirts fit true to size. Orders due by May 11th.
